Partners Candace L. Meyers and Karen V. Paige recently presented at the 2026 Lake County Bar Association Family Law Seminar, alongside Attorney Jennifer Hansen of Hansen & Cleary.
Their presentation, “What You Can Ask For, What You Can Get, and What You Should Leave Alone: Mental Health Law for Illinois Practitioners.”
The program is designed to provide attorneys (those representing the parties to a parenting case, and GAL’s) with the tools to navigate confidentiality rules regarding mental health records, and communication with mental-health providers. The presentation focused on how to balance the attorney’s role of zealous advocacy with statutory compliance, and the GAL’s role in ensuring that the best interests of the child are met and protected.
The session provided Illinois family law practitioners with practical insight into navigating the legal and ethical considerations surrounding mental health in domestic relations matters.
