I don’t really like posting photos of myself but I’ll make an exception as this one felt too big not to share. When I was a baby designer 20 years ago, I used to come into this shop and look around and spend hours choosing 1 or two things I could afford, and it felt like I would never find my footing as a designer, or that someone would point at me and say “you can’t be here, you have no clue what you’re doing”. Flash forward to last week-we went back to NY for a quick sourcing trip (and for me to say thank you to the two people who have supported the business the most during an insane year), and this time I had both my Lead Seamstress and my Operations Manager with me. We were able to buy whatever we wanted and needed, which we did. Is that success? I have no idea, but it does feel like a huge moment that deserves to be recognized, and something I’m sure all people who have started their own businesses will understand as something to be proud of. Anyway, sending a huge thanks to everyone who has ever bought a dress or had something altered, worked for us, or otherwise been one of the cheerleaders of this biz. I cannot thank you enough for believing in me, and I might even give myself a little pat on the back for getting this far too. 😘

We look this tired because we are working hard to make sure everyone has an incredible wedding day, no matter what. We love all of you and we can’t thank you enough for your support over the years. As you might know, rights are being eroded at lightning-speed this year-not just abortion, but trans rights, voting rights, education, and housing, and marriage equality is likely up for debate soon. These are issues that affect everyone and if you’re not pi**ed you’re not paying attention. Mignonette and Ette’s mission has always been to not only help couples have the wedding of their dreams, but to also quietly give back to the community-every year Anne and I donate 10% of our salaries to local charities like , , , , and . This year we are adding and to our list of organizations for the incredible work they do helping to feed, house, and represent our most vulnerable community members. Whether you’re gay, straight, or something else entirely, we hope everyone gets the chance to celebrate safely today, whether that’s at the parade or just a self-care Sunday with yoga and a bubble bath. We couldn’t do the things we do without you support, and we hope you feel the love we have for all of you the minute you walk through our doors.

As you might know, I have been revamping heirloom gowns since we started the business more than a decade ago, and while I love designing from scratch, reworking a family’s beloved vintage gown into something modern is my favorite thing in the world. When free-spirited bride J. came to me with her mother’s 1970’s knit dress and wanted to try and personalize it, she was worried that nothing could be done, but once I saw it was hooked- and once she told me her wedding destination, Iceland, which is my favorite place on Earth, I knew we would get along just fine.
We put our heads together to come up with a perfect boho design, and then, using some cleverly-matched vintage crochet pieces I already had, we turned mom’s gown into a 2-piece top with an open back a skirt with flared side godets and a wide waistband, and a veil dyed to match the cream tones in the gown.
