UChicagoGRAD career advisors frequently emphasize the importance of networking, and they strive to follow their own advice. At the recent Graduate Career Consortium Conference, where graduate career professionals shared ideas and best practices for supporting graduate students and postdocs, the UChicagoGRAD team bonded with colleagues from across the country during lectures, lunches, and receptions. Whether you’re looking for work, seeking inspiration, or wanting to geek out about a shared professional interest, we encourage you to make new connections!

Congratulations to Natalie Jones, M.A. in Social Sector Leadership and Non-Profit Management, and Zoe (Zhongyu) Wu, M.P.P. in Public Policy, who recently earned their Higher Education Administration (HEA) Credential!

We would also like to celebrate those who have earned the HEA Credential in the last two years: Michele Ferris, (PhD, Divinity), Elizabeth Kelley (PhD, Chemistry), Almaz Mesghina, (PhD, CHD), Zahra Muhsin (MA, Humanities), Nick Nurre (MA, Humanities), Fahad Sajid, (PhD, Political Science), and Rowan Bayne (PhD, English).

UChicagoGRAD’s HEA Credential is a co-curricular professional development program that enables UChicago graduate students and postdocs to use their skills and training to explore administrative careers in higher education and gain meaningful experiences that will help prepare them for work at colleges and universities.

If you are interested in the HEA Credential, please reach out to Kathrin Kranz at [email protected]. You can also visit our website: https://grad.uchicago.edu/career-development/internships/?tab-section=credentialinhigheredadmin

This week UChicagoGRAD heard from a panel of alumni working in higher education administration at UChicago (“Careers in Higher Education: Perspectives from Alumni”). Thank you to Monica Barry, Kelli Chavez, and Michelle Skinner for speaking about their academic work, how it prepared them for a career path in higher education, and how they have translated their academic experiences into meaningful careers on campus.

For graduate students pursuing UChicagoGRAD's Credential in Higher Education Administration (HEA), attending the panel counts toward fulfillment of the "Building Knowledge" tasks. The HEA Credential offers UChicago graduate students the opportunity to use their skills and training to explore administrative careers and gain meaningful experience. Visit the Internships and Experiential Learning page of the UChicagoGRAD website for more information.
