These grants of up to $18,500 are designed to help provide dental homes and/or continuity of care to underserved seniors. Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award: This program annually provides two $5,000 awards - the Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award and the Henry Schein Cares Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award - to dental students and early career dentists who have demonstrated leadership skills in efforts aimed at improving the oral health of the public. ADA Foundation Crest and Oral-B Promising Researcher Award: This $5,000 award recognizes excellence in oral health research to support promising researchers pursuing a career that advances preventive dentistry. Eligibility: Degree candidates who conduct oral health research in preventive dentistry while enrolled in one of the following programs: D.D.S. or D.M.D.; D.D.S./D.M.D. and Ph.D. dual degree; Ph.D. or equivalent; M.P.H., M.S. or equivalent. ADA Foundation Dentsply Sirona Research Award for Dual Degree (D.D.S./Ph.D. or D.M.D./Ph.D.) Candidates: This $10,000 award recognizes excellence in oral health research for a dual degree candidate who is interested in pursuing a career in research that advances the oral health of the public. A "dual degree candidate” is defined as an individual pursuing both a D.M.D./D.D.S. degree and a Ph.D. either simultaneously, or in sequence within a period of five years from the completion of the first degree and the start of the second. Give Kids A Smile Community Leadership Development Institute (GKAS Ambassador program): This program provides select GKAS program coordinators with \ funding to subsidize travel and expenses associated with attending the GKAS Institute, where they gain the knowledge and resources to help them expand, enhance, or begin their GKAS program. Once GKAS program coordinators complete this training, they are eligible to become a GKAS Ambassador. The ADA Foundation provides a minimum of ten travel grants to a select group of applicants to enable them to attend a three-day training session in St. Louis, where Give Kids A Smile began.
