Our products are handmade using artistic traditions such as block-printing and embroidery...no factory production here. Combine that with flattering design and a flair for color, and you've got the Mata look. For our producers, it's an opportunity to make a better life for their families. Choosing fair trade means you're helping fight global poverty.

Taylor here, the designer & owner of Mata.

I was at my desk in the studio the other day, fabric swatches everywhere, probably talking to myself as one does, when a neighborhood woman stopped in to pick up her online order. She was so excited and told me that 2 years ago, she bought our Olivia Dress in green and has worn it so many times she can’t even count. Still wears it all the time. It’s the one she reaches for when she wants to feel good without thinking about it.

So when she saw we brought the Olivia style back this season in two new colors, she ordered one immediately. Just like that.

Jacob handed it to her in the garment bag and she said: “Oh, I don’t even need to try it on. I already know how it fits.”

A woman who just trusts a dress that much? Honestly, that’s everything. My heart was full and I couldn’t stop smiling :)

This season’s Olivia is back in two new colors:

〰️ French Lilac: lightweight lined cotton with a hand screen printed botanical print. Relaxed, a little romantic, great on every body. Pockets, obviously.

〰️ Teal Modal: the same beloved silhouette in modal, a plant-based fabric that feels genuinely silky against your skin. Vivid, airy, and one of those things you have to touch to believe. Also: pockets.

Both made fair trade, small-batch, in India by one of our long-standing production partners.

This is the one people come back for. She’s proof.

Happy Mother’s Day + World Fair Trade Day weekend!

To us, this weekend is a celebration of women everywhere.

Here’s to the mothers, grandmothers, mother figures. The women working for their kids, buying gifts for their nieces and nephews, those who hand out high fives to neighbor kids, or those who spend their days wiping noses, and the women who long to be doing just that.

Here’s to the women who work for their families, who learn a new skill and make a living from it, and those who start their own business and employ dozens of other women who are doing the same.

Fair trade and mothers have a lot in common, and we want to share the 💚 for them today and everyday!
