A bit surprised by how much I really like the new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport 🤔 My wife Angel has been asking if we can just get a RAV4 for her to drive for 10 years and not worry about it, but I’ve been resistant, feeling that as an enthusiast we should have something a bit more premium, luxurious or sporty in the garage.
But while the GR Sport isn’t a serious performance model, as a plug-in hybrid with over 300 horsepower it’s actually kinda quick…I really like the way it looks and the interior is nice with everything you’d need (so many actual buttons and so little shiny black plastic).
At ~$50k it’s quite a lot for a RAV4 but man…I really like it.
I was legitimately sitting there struggling to come up with serious complaints. I’ll never love a CVT but hey, this thing is about efficiency, and it gets nearly 50 miles all electric and will do 40 mpg. You don’t get DC fast charging but that’s not the end of the world. It’ll charge to fill overnight without a problem.
A RAV4 GR Sport in our future? Maybe…
That asymmetrical rear end is still a bit weird looking. But the Land Rover Discovery impressed me and I think it’s a great value in the Land Rover lineup!

Budget friendly Bentley? Is that a thing?
Well this one is a great example of the beauty of depreciation. 2022 Bentley Continental Flying Spur, 50k miles, easily $250,000 when new, now for sale for $125,000. Obviously the caveat here is its still a very expensive car with very expensive running costs, and this one was properly driven and used with some proper miles on it, so make sure you save your pennies for maintenance costs.
Another interesting quirk of this specific Flying Spur is the plug-in hybrid powertrain. No twin turbo V8, no silky smooth W12, instead this borrows the Audi RS and Porsche Panamera twin turbo V6 and pairs it with a hybrid system. You get some electric range, you get solid power and torque numbers, but you lose the active anti-roll bars and rear steer, plus the V6 just feels a little un-Bentley-like under load.
Regardless, the interior is still proper Bentley, covered in quilted leather and actual metal, you still have a proper dash clock, the crystal headlights are gorgeous and it looks menacing all murdered out.
50% off depreciated Bentley or a brand new Mercedes S-Class? I’d probably go for the Bentley and just save a couple thousand dollars for those possible ownership costs.
Thanks to for letting me take the car for a drive, full review is up!
