Fake Indian Consulate Calls on the Rise; San Francisco Mission Warns Public
The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has issued a fresh warning about a rise in fraudulent phone calls from scammers impersonating consular officials. The fraudsters often spoof official Consulate phone numbers, falsely claim there are issues with passports, visas, immigration documents, or criminal investigations, and attempt to obtain personal information or extort money. The Consulate has clarified that it never requests personal or financial information over unsolicited phone calls and advises the public not to share sensitive details or transfer money in response to such calls.
