Ahh, a snow day. Let’s have some fun. Walk in the snow. Light the Dragon, my bread oven. Make a breakfast pizza or two, a few bagels. Compare rustic bread recipes. Time to eat; it’s 8 am. How are you all doing? It’s Groundhog Day here.

It’s official! I’ve closed Babushka Bakery. No need to grieve; I’m very healthy and looking forward to a freshened life. Which will include more winter, more rustic baking for family, more stargazing, more biking, more kindness, more summer, more bonfires, more woods to explore, and more mysteries in the future. Wishing all you lovely people health, happiness, and perhaps fortune.

On a spectacular October morning , this covid postponed wedding day arrived, full of love and beauty. The bride chose a sculptural and contemporary bridal cake, with marbled details of gold and silver. The flavor was a Sour cream Strawberry cake with White chocolate ganache filling. My shop remains closed for new orders, and I’ve been missing serving my most wonderful and kind clients. -

I’ve been watching Japanese and Korean street food videos; the vendors are so precise and elegant in their movements. It’s quite relaxing. But this has created a craving for Fruit Sandos which have become a thing this summer online. Quite honestly, the most delicious thing I’ve eaten this long and hot summer. Brioche bread, sweetened whipped cream, and filled with in season fruits. It’s so refreshing and easy to prepare. You can find more artistic versions on YouTube, or see for a tutorial. -

It’s been a crazy few weeks. I set my home oven on fire, accidentally, of course, which created so much damaging smoke. followed that up with a mini tornado hitting the house. Ah well, nothing improves my mental health better than a chewy bagel. This batch of bagels is the first in my new oven, which did the job on these Sourdough Maldon crusted bagels. Salty! -

A Black Forest cake! Winter in July! Very unusual for me to make a cake with a whipped cream filling, but after a couple of tests I managed to stabilize the cream so the structure of it lasted at least 2 days. Composed of dark chocolate cake, whipping cream, fresh cherries, chocolate ganache, and a white chocolate band to hold it all together!
