Attention Illinois residents.
The Senate Executive Committee has scheduled HB 5095 for a committee hearing this week. Can you please submit a witness slip in support of HB 5095? The deadline is 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6.
HB 5095 will ensure that the Illinois Secretary of State’s current self-attestation process for gender marker corrections on driver's license is established in state law. The bill also ensures that a person's gender designation form is kept confidential, protected like medical statements and only released by court order. The legislation is timely and necessary, given the increased attacks on the transgender community and the targeting of state IDs we’ve seen in other states. HB 5095 is an initiative of Equality Illinois, Legal Council for Health Justice, and the Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois.
