A curious trans mermaid defies her mother’s warnings and ventures to the surface, only to discover that the world above is not what she dreamed. This lyrical coming-of-age story explores environmental destruction, desire, colonial imagination, and the danger of being seen.

🎭 AUDITIONS — THE SWALLOW

Open Space Arts is seeking actors for its fall production of THE SWALLOW by Guillem Clua, translated by Tim Gutteridge and directed by Laine Rogers.

CASTING:

RAY — 35
Persistent, thoughtful, vulnerable, and carrying more than he first reveals. Singing is required.

EMILY — 60 — Understudy
A sharp, disciplined, and emotionally complex choral director and singing teacher. Singing and musical confidence are essential.

Rehearsals begin August 2. Performances run September 11–27, with a possible extension through October 18.

Pay: $300 for the initial run, plus $300 if extended.

Submit a brief contemporary dramatic monologue and a short song or hymn excerpt by July 15.

Written by Guillem Clua, SMILEY is an international romantic comedy about Álex and Bruno, two very different men brought together by a misdialed voicemail — and the unexpected possibility of love.

Windy City Times praised the production as “an endearing story” with “terrific chemistry” between Seth Kobs and Ayden Lopez.
