We are attempting to identify seniors in need to connect them with people and senior services. *Presently the VIC is not meeting in person as the Senior Center is not open to volunteers due to COVID-19. For more information, please call or email us.*
The Garfield Ridge VIC has a space in the Garfield Ridge Satellite Senior Center. The intention of the VIC is for community volunteers, stakeholder
s and leaders to work to provide the resourcess seniors in the community need to age at home successfully. The VIC is also trying to assess just what seniors in the community really need and to search for the necessary resources. We are looking to assemble a list of seniors who are not aware of or not taking advantages of the resources that are available to them. These may be seniors who do not have family resources. Please feel free to call/email us with the name and numbers of a senior you know who may need aid. Whether the need is a regular, check-in phone call, a connection to the City of Chicago's resources, education regarding resources that are available, free services with seniors in mind or other needs. The VIC is looking for the following:
- Volunteers to pick up and return phone/email messages to refer seniors
to services, provide check up calls as needed, and meet with other
members of the VIC on a monthly basis*.
- One or perhaps two-three volunteer(s) to be the senior leader(s) of the
VIC. The leader(s) would plan and run the meetings, go to city-wide
Village Collaborative meetings sponsored by the City of Chicago and
email/phone/invite the other members to the monthly meeting*. The
senior leader(s) would also be responsible for keeping the members of
the VIC informed.
- Those who can provide seniors with assistance like an emergency lawn
mowing, snow shoveling, and the like. If you have the talent or ability
to provide something a senior needs, let us know. You can call/email us
and/or meet with the VIC at a monthly meeting*. The VIC holds events such as resource fairs and events that showcase the main focus of the VIC which is connecting seniors to resources and educating seniors on planning ahead to age in place.
