Today we remember a true friend, devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, and dedicated public servant, Det. Alvin Perez. His presence, loyalty, and kindness touched the lives of so many, both in and out of uniform.

Though words can never fill the void left behind, his memory will continue to live through the countless lives he impacted, the family he loved deeply, and the friendships he built throughout the years.

We honor his service, cherish the moments shared, and keep his family and loved ones in our prayers during this difficult time.

Det. Alvin Perez will never be forgotten. His legacy, laughter, and spirit will always remain in our hearts.

Rest in Peace, Detective Alvin Perez. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. 🕊️

Memorial Month is a time to honor first responders who gave everything, speaking their names and remembering the lives behind the uniforms. May holds both grief and gratitude, a time when their courage and lives are never forgotten.

Today, we are highlighting Detective Alvin Perez of the Bellwood Police Department.

Detective Alvin Perez was killed in an automobile accident while he and his partner transported a murder suspect back to the police station for questioning.

Perez was driving a 1999 Ford Ta**us when it struck a concrete barrier on an off-ramp from the Eisenhower Expressway in snowy and slushy conditions. Detective Perez’s partner and the suspect, who were both riding in the back seat, were injured.

Detective Perez had served with the Bellwood Police Department for 12 years and was a United States Navy veteran. He had been promoted to detective just 17 days before the accident. Detective Perez was survived by his wife, daughter, twin sons, father, and sister.

May we always remember Detective Alvin Perez of the Bellwood Police Department.

The murder of Chicago Police Ofc. John Bartholomew and attempted murder of his partner is not just a crime by one individual, but the effect of a movement to keep repeat offenders like this killer on our streets. Criminal-coddling politicians and advocate judges have built an infrastructure of laws and policies to undermine the basic concept of accountability, all out of greater empathy for thugs than victims. Law and order is now permissive violence and it’s unsustainable. Absent full repeal, Springfield must immediately enact changes to the SAFE-T Act to expand detainable offenses, strengthen revocation of pretrial release, allow for consideration of criminal history for detainment, and close the 48-hour window for electronic monitoring. One hand may have pulled the trigger, but many set the stage with their votes.
