Emotional intelligence is the capacity to blend thinking and feeling to make optimal decisions. It’s being smarter with feelings. In the Six Seconds Model of Emotional Intelligence, it is broken down into 3 pursuits:

Self-Awareness: Be more aware, by clearly seeing what you feel and do
Choice: Be more intentional, by doing what you mean to do
Purpose: Be more purposeful, by doing it for a reason

These pursuits are made measurable and actionable by 8 unique emotional intelligence skills, which are explained below:

Our EQuip to Achieve summit is coming to an end tomorrow!

Our CoHosts are excited to bring this Summit to every Educator, SEL Practitioner, and Parent’s home! We are adapting and listening to the growing needs of our community. We need to provide better ways to internalize the information that is taught remotely, and also help children maintain and even increase their Emotional Intelligence. We are happy to provide a Summit that finds solutions to all of these and more!

Thank you for joining us forge a path towards emotionally responsive education.

Lee Guerette's specialty is helping teachers introduce Mindful practices from the book “CognitiveYoga”. She has an MA in Reading and Language, and advanced certification from 6seconds to assess and create curriculum. She is the Director of Cognitive Yoga and author for EQ4Peace Worldwide.
Her presentation at the EQ2A summit is titled “How to Treat Your Neighbor” and focuses on both educators and parents.

1. We must understand our psychological makeup to monitor and make life choices that will bring us health and happiness.
2. We need to become lifelong learners, flexible thinkers, and open to new ideas.
3. We need to be culturally sensitive to other races, geographic influence, religions, economic and educational levels.
4. We need to become wise stewards of earth resources.
5. We need a moral compass for just social practices in business, as individuals and communities.

Good teachers always endeavor to bring positive ethics into the classroom, but as an experienced advocate of social-emotional learning, she would suggest that Social Emotional Learning become a co-curricular activity or be woven into all courses as a best practice. Curriculum and training for teachers to understand and use collaborative, thought-provoking, emotionally profound lessons to deeply engage their charges is essential for them to become 21st-century thinkers.

She believes that the main challenge in education (K-8) today is “Self-Regulation - acceptance of Diversity” whilst the biggest opportunities are “Global Community Communication--Emphasis on Well Being.”
