Spectrum at UChicago
Hey everyone! We hope you're doing well and thriving amidst midterms season. This is just a last reminder that our cohort application is open! Please note that this is a pretty non-competitive application and shouldn't take more than 10-15 min to complete. All applications are due on November 12.
Members of our winter cohort will hear from speakers about their experiences in politics/public service and about q***r issues, have more in-depth discussions about LGBT issues, volunteer with organizations serving the Chicago LGBTQ community, build their leadership skills, build community, get a chance to go on an off-campus retreat, and get lots of free food and merch. This , Spectrum is highlighting one Black LGBT+ pioneer every week. Born in the South Side of Chicago, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, commonly referred to as Miss Major, is a veteran of the historic “Stonewall Rebellion” and a transgender activist and community leader whose advocacy efforts focus on Trans women of color. At the center of her activism is her fierce advocacy for Trans women of color who have survived police brutality and incarceration in men’s jails and prisons.
