Sochi was being a little annoying tonight while I was making dinner. Nothing crazy but every time I turned around she was under foot, right behind me. Instead of kicking her out of the room I pulled out her bed and put her on place. By doing that I allowed her to still be close to the action but let her see that she didn't need to be in the middle of it.

Once she had settled on place I released her to give her another chance to make decisions while free at liberty.

I don't just want to leave her on place and call it good enough. I want to use place to teach her the skills she needs so she can make good decisions.

When she came off she walked around a bit again but then picked up a chew toy and just played with that on her own!

Don't just stop at the obedience. Absolutely use it to teach manners and self control. But then make sure to give your dog a chance to practice that self control while at liberty!
