Our first petition is now live. In it, we request the Priests of this diocese to sign the Oath Against Modernism. This serves not only a catechetical purpose but also an organizational and foundational one. Yes, this poll is useful in educating the faithful about the deadly heresies of Modernism. However, we’re also introducing the clergy and laymen of Wyoming to the idea of subsidiarity through popular demand. Most importantly, by reaching out to the people of Wyoming we gain notoriety and lay the foundation for still greater changes in the future. The goal for all of this is the establishment of a Diocesan Latin Mass in Wyoming. It’s a stepwise approach that I hope will bear fruit in time.

What is Modernism?

Essentially, Modernism is a syndrome of heresies that attack sacred tradition and divine revelation by rejecting the deposit of faith. This is usually implicit, indirect, and shrouded under the disguise of Catholicism.

Modernism first presents us with the false principle that modern ideologies supersede what the Church has always taught. It leads us to question the past and ultimately to condemn it as evil or outdated. It relies on the understanding that newer is better. A natural consequence of this is that if the past is outdated, we cannot follow the traditional teachings of the Saints, Doctors, and Fathers of the Church because they do not apply to our time. Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint Alphonsus, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and The Council of Trent are all irrelevant today. That's what modernism does. It throws away the treasures of the Catholic Church. Subsequently, the heresies of Modernism introduce novelties that confuse the Catholic mindset. This mindset is called the Sensus Fidelium; the Sense of the Faith. It's a God-given spiritual instinct that warns us when something is wrong. Modernists do not possess the Sensus Fidelium and will violently oppose this instinct in others so that faithful Catholics are confused, ignorant, and ultimately apathetic. This is how they attack our sacred tradition more vigorously and effectively than any Protestant. Tradition is the defender and safeguard of divine revelation and the deposit of faith. Once Tradition is removed, the Modernists can attack the very life of our Church. They won't stop until they murder the bride of Christ.

A Policy of Neutrality

Una Voce is Latin for One Voice. Reflecting their namesake, it serves as a universal platform for any Catholic that would support restoration in the liturgical and paraliturgical life of the Church through the sacred Traditions of the Latin Rite. This includes Gregorian Chant, polyphony, and above all, the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass. We believe this is a noble and extraordinarily important task, essential to maintaining the life of the Catholic Church for ourselves and our posterity.

That being said, our role is limited. We are not aligned with any particular organization, and we do not take any positions beyond what is necessary to fulfill our relatively simple goal. We recognize that even as we unite under a common and most important cause, individuals are going to have different views. Catholics from SSPX, Servants of the Holy Family, FSSP, ICKSP, IBP Diocesan TLM, Novus Ordo, and all other parishes or communities can and should contribute despite their cultural and theological differences. Someday our holy mother Church, through a pius and worthy Pope, may clarify these points of contention. Until then, we would better serve God by exhausting ourselves for the preservation of the source and summit of our faith.
