When renting at a self-storage facility, you will provide your own lock. If you do not already own one, they are available for purchase on-site.
When renting a storage unit, ask about insurance options for your things. This can protect them from theft or damage while in storage. While your storage facility is likely to have adequate security, insuring your items can protect them from unexpected occurrences like natural disasters.
Flammable and combustible materials cannot be stored in a self storage unit. You must drain all gasoline from vehicles, boats, snowmobiles and equipment, and you can’t store gas, cleaning fluids, paint or similar materials in the unit.
