Recently we took a Corgi into our rescue due to behavior issues. He came complete with a shock collar. Would you shock a child? Put that collar around your neck and push the button. Shock, prong, and choke collars are abuse, plain and simple. Only using vibration? Think about the neck structure of the dog. The thyroid is located in the neck. Every vibration is risking the life of your dog. It's plain and simple science. Never ever use any of these collars on your dog. And toss that Flexi Lead in the trash. Dog is running, you hit the stop, and all of the pressure is on the neck. Tracheal collapse. Ruptured cervical vetebra. Any trainer using these so called tools is not an informed trainer. They evidently have no idea what science is all about. This from the AVMA, " Veterinary experts state that aversive training tools—including shock and prong collars—are associated with increased fear, aggression, and long-term welfare harm." And, "Organizations like the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists strictly advise against electronic collars. They state that shock collars pose significant welfare risks and perform no better than reward-based methods." There are fear free trainers in every state in the US. Find them if you need a trainer. Or go on-line. Start with Susan Garrett, and there are others. And buy a well fitted harness for your dog, learn how to use it.

I hope that someday someone intelligent will be in charge of the 4th celebtations. Much of Europe uses silent fireworks. Until then, DO NOT take your dog to firework displays. If you have a basement, that's the place for your dog. No basement, the bathroom is a good place. You may also want to try a Snuggle Puppy. If meds are needed, now is the time to get them.
