- John Mercer Langston became the first African American lawyer in the state of Ohio along with becoming with first African American from Virginia to be elected into the U.S. Congress.


-The first exclusive town established by African Americans was founded in 1908 in Allensworth, California.

-John Taylor was the first African American to win gold in the 1908 Olympics; while Alice Coachman became the first African American woman to win the gold in 1948.

-Robert L. Johnson became the first Black millionaire in 2001 after selling the cable station, Black Entertainment Television (BET) that he had co-founded with his wife.
