The Department of Human Services warns that federal paperwork requirements will cause New Jerseyans to lose Medicaid coverage next year.
But New Jersey’s real problem is administrative failure.
Our state terminates Medicaid recipients for paperwork errors at a rate 10% higher than the national average, automatically renews fewer than 20% of eligible enrollees, and fails to process 27% of applications within the federally required 45-day deadline.
Let’s fix this State failure before next year’s inevitable blame game.
