How did drivers navigate before in-vehicle GPS systems?
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of drivers (commercial and personal) rely on the GPS technology that Dr. Gladys West (see previous post) developed. Live satellite tracking, traffic conditions update in real time, and automatically calculated alternate routes make delivering freight much easier than it used to be. GPS services started showing up in cars in the early 90’s but it wasn’t until 2000 that the US government removed some restrictions that allowed GPS to be more precise for civilian use.
