Survive First Contact

Maintenance on my "Blink" home security cameras.
Lithium AA batteries last me around 4 months on the cameras that are running in high-traffic areas. 6 months or more on the cameras that don't run as often.

Place cameras so that you can observe areas where an intruder could enter. Have a plan for that happening. Example-you hear someone break in, get to your defensive firearm and check your cameras to see where and how many people have entered. The Blink cameras have a microphone so you can tell them that youre armed and that you've called the police. Theyll very likely leave. Set cameras so they can see your other cameras-so no one can tamper with your cameras without being seen. Once placed, verify the field of view and adjust as needed.
Good news is if there's a break-in while you're not home, at least you'll have video evidence to show an insurance company and maybe the faces of the perps to show Law Enforcement. Even if they take the cameras, the footage will be saved on your account.

Your home is your castle. Take action to ensure that your home is secure-simple things like locking doors (most home invaders come through unlocked doors), keeping exterior lights on at night, and installing things like cameras and alarms when your budget allows. You need to make your place a "less attractive" target for an opportunist criminal. Dogs and guns help too. Just sayin.
