Our Vision: Council for Children’s Rights envisions a community committed to standing up, speaking out, and acting to ensure every child’s right to be safe, healthy, and well-educated. We focus in the areas of child welfare, delinquency, mental health, special education, and custody. Additionally, through research and policy work, we seek to make lasting, system-wide change across our entire community.

Yesterday, our Education Law Program Director, Caitlin Whalan Jones, was honored to recognize our community partner, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, with the Outstanding Law Firm award for their pro bono work during the Mecklenburg Bar Association/26th Judicial District Bar’s Annual Meeting.

This award was accepted by Lindsey Smith, who is a member of our Board, as well as a partner at Katten.

From all of us at Council, thank you to Katten for your continued support and belief in our mission to protect and advance the legal rights of children in our community!

Did you know that April is ?!

At Council, our pro bono attorneys and custody advocates play an important role in our organization. With the support of these volunteers, our staff is able to continue providing free legal services to thousands of children in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. We are so grateful for their dedication to our mission!

We are grateful for and inspired by the heroic actions of our community, which raised over $42,000 in donations to support Council last week. 🤩

Your heroic actions ensure that we can continue fighting for our community's children, children who desperately need us. Our work often begins with a legal issue, but that is just the starting point.

For 45 years, we’ve created pathways for children and families to achieve upward mobility. Our work is complex, but at its core, it’s simple: we show up for our children, give them a voice, and ensure they have a chance to thrive.

Thank YOU to everyone who doubled your impact last week! All donations were matched dollar for dollar up to $15,000 thanks to the generosity of our Board of Directors. 💪💚

It is never too late to take action! Be a hero and use your voice to provide a brighter future for our children by donating today at https://www.cfcrights.org/donate/.

We need your support now more than ever. We are excited to welcome our valued community to join us at Divine Barrel Brewing on Saturday, April 26th, to learn more about how our work is making a true difference in the lives of children in our community, as well as the ways you can help us ensure that no child faces these challenges alone. 💙

Our education advocacy, custody representation, and mental health integration programs continue to remain fully operational, providing crucial, life-changing legal services to children in our community who desperately need us.

Spread the word by sharing this post and inviting your friends, family, colleagues, and loved ones to join us for an engaging afternoon! 🌞 A portion of Divine Barrel sales made between 1:00-5:00PM will be donated directly to our work.

Can’t make the event but still want to take action? Visit https://www.cfcrights.org/donate/ to give now.
