Effective leadership centres itself around influence because leadership isn't just about you, it's about other people and the relationships you build with them. Individual ability on its own isn’t enough to sustain a thriving business. A leader must provide the motivation required to achieve shared goals and mutual success – in the process unlocking levels of greatness that we might never have dreamed to be possible.
Your ability to influence relies on your skill at introducing and driving critical conversation. In order to effect the change you seek, your vision has to be effectively shared and translated to your employees, peers, and partners, and so you need to become a master of conversation. That’s why I’ve joined forces with (Dale Laughlin/ Rhonda York) my fellow certified Conversational Intelligence®, Executive, Team and Life Coach, to create our brand-new podcast series, Conversations for FearLESS Leaders.
We define a FearLESS leader as one who recognizes the fears that may be holding them back and is able to move beyond them to have the kinds of necessary, intentional conversations that make things happen. In each episode of our podcast we’ll explore the scary situations that can inhibit your ability to perform and use our experience to help you navigate through those fears to the success you deserve.
So get comfortable, take a listen, and join the conversation at http://bit.ly/cfl-podcast
- because we can do more when we fear less!
Neuro tip #3 -- Did you know that listening is more powerful than speaking? Are you listening to judge, or listening to connect, or listening to know how to respond? Practice active listening by watching the person's facial expressions, their tone and pace of speaking. Don't interrupt. Give the space to complete their thought and connect with what they are saying. This does not mean you have to agree, but try to understand their perspective.
Neuro Tip #2
Hope Brings New Reality-the expectant brain uses the outside world to shape and reshape itself for hope-both physically and mentally. Act hopefully and your brain responds by creating just the right neural pathways to bring about the new reality. You do have the ability to influence your thinking. Choose your thoughts carefully. Are they supportive of your hopeful ways or demeaning and draining? Our brain has neuroplasticity. what are you stretching yourself to do in 2018?
Each week in 2018 I will post a Neuro Tip written by Judith E. Glaser on this page. Changing habits slowly gives them more stickability. Resolve to make 2018 your best year yet!
Neuro-tip #1 CREATE A POSITIVE WORK SPACE
If you are a leader, be intentional about the work environment you ask your team to live and work in each day. Shape your environment with appreciative and value-based conversations resulting in a more optimistic culture enhanced with self-confidence. Don't be a Tell-Sell-Yell leader unless you want to kill morale, have high levels of turnover and be disrespected by your team members. Rhonda O'Daniel York
