The narrative of the Hood

My sister and I had an interesting conversation about the hood. In similar fashion we both agreed that many refer the “Hood” to the Neighbor”hood”. Then she posed a different question and asked suppose the hood runs much deeper than the Neighborhood? I said I agree however, many won’t connect the dots as such to the neighborhood.

Currently the “Hood” is in more disarray than it ever has been before. And I feel it is time to look at the “hood” from an intrinsic perspective so we actually save the hood. The Neighbor”hood” in its broad sense is the community that we live in that we see, touch, and hear on a daily basis. When we rep our hood, we speak of the area we lived at during a specified/current time. What if I said that the “hood” is the community in which we live AND the connections we create with those we can identify with that doesn’t live in your community? Would you believe it? Would it make sense to you? Lets break it down:

The Neighborhood - our community
- [ ] Our livelihood- our way of living within the community
- [ ] Parenthood- our way of raising and fostering our child(rep)
- [ ] Fatherhood - Fathers raising their child(ren)
- [ ] Motherhood- Mothers nurturing their child(ren)
- [ ] Manhood - defining and identifying what it means to be a Man
- [ ] Womanhood - defining and identifying what it means to be a Woman
- [ ] Childhood- the stages and life experiences from birth to 18

In order to improve the Neighborhood, we have to first tackle the proponents of all the hoods that equates to our Neighborhood. This is requires self-reflection, Identifying the “I Am In Me”, Learning what it means to be a man/woman as an individual and as a collective. We have to unplug from the disease of absent fathers, and scorned mothers and transform into the collective of effective parenting/co-parenting. Lets give birth to
Marriage”hood” couples coming together and as a village leverage and learn vital concepts to lead successful relationship with their spouses. Our livelihood to be enhanced through networking and partnering with those who share similar ideals and interests. When all these things are put in place and the desire of change and growth occur, the Neighborhood will begin to grow, heal, and flourish. The Hood starts with the individual; the “I AM hood” in all of us. As the individuals come together, the I’s become the “We are the hood”; and finally when the “We” become “Many”, we now emerge as the community- “The Neighborhood”
