Surplus Permaculture Design

Standing here, observing.
Understanding why it exists.
how observation, water principles, and community needs shaped its placement and form.
You can see it in how water is slowed,
how it’s spread across the landscape,
how it’s allowed to sink and be stored over time.
This isn’t theory.
It’s what happens when people pay attention long enough to respond well.
Good water design begins with listening
to the land, the flow, and the people it serves.
Where have you seen observation turn into good design?

There’s no shortcut to understanding a living system.
It takes time. Attention. And learning from our mistakes.
Plants don’t need clever solutions.
They need us to notice what’s already happening.
They need us to be present.
Good design begins there —
with observation before intervention.
Every mistake is information.
Every season is a teacher.
🌱 What has the land taught you recently?

Last November, we began a collaboration with the crew at Samo Terra Foundation to create a Food Forest utilising the waste stream (cardboard and food scraps) from the Meadows in the Mountains Festival. ♻️🌱🌳🍎
We started the process by creating Hügelkultur beds that will become the new home for fruit trees, berries and medicinal herbs that will not only be used by the stewards of the land but also by the festival goers.
