I just got off the phone with an elderly lady that lost access to her MacBook Pro computer. The problem is that she lost her password, and even after contacting Apple Support the computer is now what is called: Activation Locked, and cannot be used without her original password or access to her iCloud account. She didn't record the important details and it gets harder as we get older to keep track of such things.
We always advise folks to use a password manager, like LastPass to keep track of this important information and have backup ways to access it, recorded in a safe place that won't be forgotten.
