Challalujah Bakery

Every day, employees and customers of The Challalujah Bakery, Marrs Mercantile, and Bemco face a significant safety risk as they cross North Main Street near 271 North Main Street. The absence of a designated crosswalk at this busy location makes it a hazard for pedestrians. This is not just about numbers; it’s about the lives of people who work and shop at these establishments every day.

Owning The Challalujah Bakery for over 6 years, I have personally seen numbers of Older adults and children running across North Main Street as cars drive over 35 MPH swiftly, sometimes unaware of pedestrians attempting to cross. It's a harrowing experience that reminds us all of the urgent need for safety measures. A crosswalk is a simple yet effective solution that can protect our community members and prevent potential accidents.

The issue is particularly urgent during peak hours when the street becomes exceptionally busy. Pedestrians are left with no choice but to navigate around traffic, taking risks that could easily be mitigated with the installation of a crosswalk. Ensuring the safety of all road users should be a paramount concern. After more than 3 Years it's time we addressed this oversight to protect both patrons and employees.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian fatalities account for 17% of all traffic-related deaths. A crosswalk could significantly reduce the likelihood of pedestrian accidents in our neighborhood.

We urge Mayor Bill Edwards ( [email protected]) (479-685-4951) and the City Counsel of Centerton to take immediate action by installing a crosswalk at this crucial point on North Main Street. Doing so will provide a safe passageway for everyone, ensuring that both customers and employees can cross without fear. Let’s not wait for an accident to compel change; instead, let’s act now to improve safety in our community.
