Learn Disability Justice

Sarah Greichen, a 13-year-old girl in pursuit of her Girl Scout Gold Award. Sarah’s twin brother Jacob is Autistic and the isolation from being in a segregated special education program left him without friendship or purpose. Sarah’s original project goal was to find Jacob a friend by increasing the inclusion of students with disabilities in schools. The project resulted in a SAF Club Curriculum that could be replicated in other schools, a website to promote and deliver programs, and established SAF as a nonprofit organization. In 2019, Score A Friend (SAF) served as a disability inclusion youth leadership organization with $84,000 in donations, 18 programs in six states, a 15-member board of directors, and 40 staff and volunteers. In 2020, the pandemic brought SAF programs to a halt. Taking advantage of the downtime, SAF Identified programmatic inadequacies, while also identifying a spike in demand for e-learning and social justice education in schools. These challenges and opportunities presented SAF a unique opportunity to shift their business model and rebrand in 2021 to Learn Disability Justice.
