Georgia’s low-birthweight rate in 2024 was 10.3%, placing our state in the bottom three in the nation. Our state’s low-birthweight rate has remained consistently higher than the national average since 2010. Low birthweight is the strongest predictor of infant mortality and provides insight into women’s overall health. Babies born with a low birthweight have a high probability of experiencing developmental problems and short- and long-term disabilities.
