Douglas County Search and Rescue

Last night was pretty special. Often we have the privilege of helping someone in the wilderness, but don't get to see them again after the handoff to higher medical. However, in this case we had the opportunity to hear from South Metro Fire Rescue firefighter/paramedic Steve, who had unfortunately suffered significant injuries in an ATV rollover during a rescue last September in Rampart Range. We were part of his rescue and extraction, and overjoyed to see him again now fully recovered and back in service, as he shared his story. Mutual aid is key, but its importance is especially clear when we are out helping one of our own. Every mission is important. Every rescue is a blessing to us to be part of. This one was all that and more.
