#ArrestStory Officers Leyva and Muir responded to a report of a car burglary in progress. Within minutes, they saw two males walking on a sidewalk near where the burglary had been reported. Officers contacted both males and their investigation quickly revealed more.   One male, wearing an ankle monitor, was found with a ski mask, flashlight and bank receipts in his pockets.   The other male attempted to pass himself off as his brother, but officers discovered his true identity and learned he had two felony warrants. A search incident to the arrest revealed more than 30 gift cards, a stolen wallet, cash and credit cards belonging to a nearby resident.   Both men were arrested on multiple charges, and the stolen property was returned.   When Officer Linden arrived to assist, he recognized the suspects from a previous vehicle burglary case he was investigating. Video evidence confirmed the match, adding additional charges.   This is a good reminder to double-check that our car doors are locked, never leave valuables inside and report unusual or suspicious behavior. By doing so, community members play an important role in helping officers investigate and prevent crime. Thanks to the caller’s quick report and the diligent work of our officers, the suspects were arrested and booked into jail.

Sept. 3, 6:45 pm: The City is aware of a petroleum-like odor coming off the ocean and into our community, as well as in nearby cities. We’re working closely with neighboring jurisdictions, the County Health Department, and the Air Pollution Control District to monitor the situation.
