Do extensions cause damage? The answer is yes and no. It all depends on if the right method is used, the application is done properly, if you take care of the correctly at home, and if you come back in to get them adjusted before they are too grown out. This client had work done at a different salon. Mistake one: they were not using enough hair to fill in her hair. Mistake two: she went too long between her replacement that she had lots of tangling which caused breakage. I first removed her extensions. Then highlighted her and gave her a deep conditioning treatment (Joico Defy Damage Pro series) Next, I replaced her with Bellami K-tip extensions in 22 inches and cut them to blend - another important step! She took home Joico Defy Damage shampoo, conditioner, and leave in protector and Joico Heat Hero thermal protector to use when heat styling. For the K-tip method, I recommend the client go no longer than 12 weeks before a move up is required. Also be sure to brush the extensions often with a soft brush. I like Wet Brush detangling brush.
