Anti-science bureaucrats ignore their own wildlife biologists to advance Colorado fur ban.

Colorado’s Parks and Wildlife Commission voted 6–4 to move a proposed fur sales ban into the formal rulemaking process, despite recommendations from its own professional staff to reject the petition. This does not make the ban law yet, but it clears the first major hurdle and sets the proposal up for additional public comment, another Commission hearing in July, and an expected final vote in September.

The proposal would prohibit the commercial sale, barter, or trade of pelts and hides from legally harvested Colorado furbearers, including coyotes, bobcats, beavers, foxes, raccoons, mink, and other species. CPW Director Laura Clellan and agency biologists concluded there was no scientific evidence that regulated fur harvest was unsustainable, warned the proposal conflicted with existing Colorado law, and raised concerns about enforcement. Despite those findings, the Commission voted to keep the proposal moving forward.

Hunters, trappers, and other members of the public still have an opportunity to weigh in before the July hearing and again before the Commission’s expected final vote in September. If you believe wildlife policy should be guided by science instead of ideology, now is the time to make your voice heard.
