Ever wonder why Camden floods after heavy rain?

Camden and Gloucester City have a combined sewer system, where stormwater and wastewater share the same pipes. During heavy storms, those pipes can become overwhelmed. To prevent sewage 💩from backing up into homes and streets, the system releases a mix of stormwater and untreated wastewater through 28 combined sewer overflow (CSO) outfalls into our local waterways.

That overflow can carry trash, bacteria, pet waste, oil from roads, fertilizers and pesticides from lawns, and other pollutants into the river.

It’s one of the reasons keeping litter out of storm drains and reducing runoff matters. Every small action helps protect the waterways that flow through our community. 🌊

In art class, creativity is on full display as campers design their own Picasso-inspired masterpieces. 🎨
