SXSW: Ted Hope Talks About His Plans for Fandor and How It Will Save Indie Film At SXSW, Ted Hope talks about his plans and goals for Fandor.
Wonderful crowds on hand for both screenings at the Carpenter Center this past Thursday and Friday. Robert Gardner spoke before the Friday screening to introduce his new film "Dead Birds Re-encountered", a return to the Dani people of West Papua. Robert acknowledged the importance this pivotal trip had on his life with both simple honesty, gratitude and wry humor. He also reflected on the creative mission of the Film Study Center, which he directed from its modest beginnings in 1957 to 1997. A lively panel which included Robert, Susan Meiselas, William Rothman and Charles Warren followed the screening and included questions from the audience.
Next Friday DEAD BIRDS RE-ENCOUNTERED will be screened at the HARVARD FILM ARCHIVE. Here's a clip to set the stage for this remarkable film. The original DEAD BIRDS will be shown next Thursday. For more information: https://www.peabody.harvard.edu/node/920
