What drew you to the field of aging?
It wasn’t just one thing that drew me to the field of aging. Growing up, I had very strong relationships with my maternal grandparents, who lived nearby. In my first job out of journalism school, I had the privilege of interviewing hundreds of residents of two local continuing care retirement communities, a job that inspired my curiosity about what it takes to age well. By the time the Covid-19 pandemic hit, with its disproportionate impact on older adults, I had spent over a decade in marketing at a research hospital and was already feeling the pull to re-focus my work to the field of aging. Seeing that UMass Boston had an excellent Gerontology Institute and PhD program, I took the plunge onto a new path.
