The Black Madonna

Our Lady of the Hermits

The Black Madonna is a representation of the power each and every one of us has to emerge from the depths and darkness transformed into the beings our souls desire to be.

There are over 500 Black Madinna figures within Europe and some historians believe that many of her images were carried over from the Egyptian Goddess Isis and her son Horus. In other depictions, she is meant to represent the Earth Goddess and worshiped for her miracles in fertility.

Marion Woodman, a Jugian psychologist, believes the Black Madonna represents an awarness between the earth and our bodies... holding the wisdom we can only achieve when we go through the trials and fires of self transformation. Woodman relates this ideology within the book, The Pregnant Virgin, by starting "only the intensity of the fire can unite body and soul."

Love for her comes from her ability to walk through the painful fires of transformation and come out the other side with a deeper and more profound ability to love. This is the energy she is bringing to you now, my friend, holding you tightly and encouraging you to keep going, keep healing, keep transitiining... to not give up no matter how hard it may feel... because what's on the other side is far greater than you could have ever imagined.
