You might have seen something in the news this week about the Trump administration easing federal rules around medical ma*****na, moving it out of the restrictive Schedule I and into Schedule III. That doesn't mean it's safe, particularly for young people whose brains aren't fully formed until age 25 at the earliest.
* An increasing number of studies, including one published in The Lancet Psychiatry, found up to a five-time increase in psychotic disorders among teens who daily use high-potency ma*****na - THC levels of 10% or higher.
* Psychiatric Times found that psychosis associated with ma*****na can happen at first use and happens at a younger age.
It's time for parents and young people to learn about these risks. Request an atTAcK addiction speaker at your school or elsewhere:

Synthetic opioids are the new face of drug manipulation, distribution and stealth into the supply. This is the expected fourth wave of drug deaths in the US that is expected to eclipse fentanyl. This article centers on a synthetic opioid added to fentanyl making it more potent more deadly BUT be aware that a synthetic opioid under the Kratom product line has been added to infused energy shots, pills, Vapes, gummies, etc. And sold over the counter! When local GetGo stations were called, they all admitted selling this Kratom product that binds with the opioid receptors in the brain. The risk is elevated as these products are also labeled "wellness products' for energy and to be calm. Area residents are seeking treatment for a product they had no idea was a risk. Reality Tour educates on drug trends for families to understand how to stay safe in today's environment.
'The Next Wave in the Opioid Crisis': A New Drug Stronger Than Fentanyl Is Taking Off A class of synthetic drugs called nitazines have been around since the 1950s — but are quickly gaining a foothold in street drugs.
