The Prayer of St. Ephraim in the Digital Age | Ancient Faith Ministries 06/11/2026

"Pious religious rituals are prescribed for our spiritual benefit: fasting, prayer, the traditions of bodily postures, holy days, sacred space, and seasons observed that come every year at the same times, etc. Every religion has them because our humanity needs them. By creation we are hard wired for this.

However, scrupulosity, rigidity, fear, prelest [i.e., delusion], vainglory, and mental illness can also be manifested in the keeping and practices of these things in ways that are not spiritually nor psychologically beneficial.

Don't let that which is supposed to heal the passions become a passion. Keep your balance between doing hard stuff and attempting impossible (for you) stuff. If you don't know the difference between hard and impossible for yourself get spiritual direction.

Guilt, shame and fear of condemnation are not the goal nor are they spiritual fruit of the labors." (Steve Robinson)
