Jason MacAonghusa, of The Porter Bellys, seeks airs that have been recorded by the master musicians of Irish music. A favorite is the Old Man Rocking the Cradle, which he learned from studying old recordings of Pádraig O’Keefe. For The Airs Project, he chose to play Slán Le Máigh, a song air that poet Aindrias Mac Craith put words to in the 1700s. Jason’s every bow stroke is calculated to deliver the sound, mood, nuances he is driven to capture in his playing. We’ll discuss his bow as well as his bowing when The Airs Project launches July 15. If you love airs or Jason’s music, please share this post to your page or tag someone who does.
