Pre-Trial Release Denied for Chicago Man Charged with Unlawful
Possession of an Altered Fully Automatic Weapon

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Burr Ridge Chief of Police Marc Loftus announced that Judge Robert Walsh granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Chicago man allegedly found in possession of a loaded gun that had been altered to allow it to fire in fully automatic mode. Dauveyae White, 18 (d.o.b. 7/25/2007) of the 4300 block of W. Haddon Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court last Saturday charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon – Machine Gun, a Class X Felony.
On February 6, 2026, at approximately 5:58 a.m. the Burr Ridge Police Department received a call regarding suspicious activity involving a silver sedan with a missing hubcap in the area of 15W700 S. Frontage Road. Responding Burr Ridge police officers in the area observed a silver sedan with a missing hubcap driving on South Frontage Road, and ultimately pulled over the vehicle near County Line Road and I-55. The officer identified the driver of the vehicle as an Uber driver and two occupants in the backseat, one of which was identified as White. It is alleged that when the responding officers informed White about an outstanding arrest warrant for him, White became combative with officers and attempted to reach for his waistband as if to retrieve something. Following a brief struggle with officers, White was detained. When searching White, officers allegedly found him to be in possession of a loaded 9mm G***k 19 X firearm with one bullet in the chamber and a thirty-round extended magazine. It is further alleged that the weapon also had a switch that makes it capable of firing fully automatically as well as two different serial numbers, one on the slide that was different from the one on the frame.
“Public safety has always been and remains the top priority of my office,” Berlin said. “The allegation that Mr. White unlawfully possessed an extremely dangerous, fully loaded gun with a thirty-round magazine capable of firing as a machine gun, is outrageous. Illegally modified fi****ms are a danger to society, and anyone alleged to be in possession of an illegally modified firearm in DuPage County will quickly find themselves charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I commend the Burr Ridge Police Department for their efforts in this case that removed a dangerous weapon from our streets as well as for their ongoing commitment to public safety. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Michael Pingaj and Dan Orescanin for their work in securing charges against Mr. White.”
“Anytime an illegal firearm, especially one modified to fire automatically, is encountered, the risk to officers and the public increases exponentially,” Loftus said. “The actions taken in this case prevented a hazardous situation from escalating further and helped keep our community safe. I’d like to commend all the officers involved in this investigation as well as State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and his staff. Their actions demonstrate the professionalism and vigilance required to recognize a serious threat and remove a dangerous weapon from the streets.”
White’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 2, 2026, in front of Judge Joseph Bugos.
