Dan is busy removing several big oak trees that have unfortunately died from oak wilt. Here he is using what we call the "backlash method," where he lifts the grapple up on the backside of the direction he wants the tree to fall and then uses a chainsaw to make a cut at the base of the tree. He doesn't chainsaw all the way through so that when he pushes the tree, the part of the tree left uncut almost guides the tree to fall in the way he wants.

Dan brought home this beautiful cedar trunk home yesterday! It's special to see such an amazing cedar growing to this size but unfortunately sometimes they are growing directly on the future building site of a home.
