maintenance tip.
subject - tires
Important facts on tires, to start with a date code. All tires have a DOT number, this number includes a date code. The date code is the last 4 numbers of the DOT number. The first 2 numbers are the weeks of the year and the last 2 are the year. example: 3219 is 32 weeks of 2019. It is important to know that passenger vehicle's tires should not be operated over 10 years old. Trailers and motorcycles should be changed at 6 years. Another important subject is tire pressure. There is a misconception on tire pressure. Most people look at the side wall of the tire to get their tire pressure. But in fact that is what the max pressure should be at the specific weight stated on the tire. What should be done is check the door jam of your vehicle. The vehicle will state what pressure that is recommended to your vehicle and its weight. This will allow for proper wear, lower your risk of a blow out or tire separation and also improve your fuel mileage.
Maintanence tip:
Cooling systems:
There are many things that can cause an overheat. Most common are a bad radiator cap or leaks. Most times a faulty cap will not hold pressure. It's cheap insurance just to change out your radiator cap every season. The importance of pressure in a cooling system is that it raises the boiling point of your cooling system coolant. Other items are airflow. Radiators need to be cleaned externally and look for faulty fan clutch or electric fan. Stay tuned we'll continue on cooling systems on our next tip.
