“Without grace there is no hope, but with it there is no shortage.”
— St. Barnabas
Today the Church celebrates St. Barnabas, one of the earliest disciples and missionaries of Christianity.
Though not one of the Twelve Apostles, Barnabas played a crucial role in the growth of the early Church. His birth name was Joseph, but the Apostles gave him the name Barnabas, which means “Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36). What a title to receive from those who knew him best.
When others were skeptical of Saul’s conversion, Barnabas was the one who welcomed him and introduced him to the Apostles. He saw potential where others saw a past. He saw grace at work.
In a world filled with criticism, St. Barnabas reminds us of the power of encouragement, generosity, and faith in God’s ability to transform lives.
May we become sons and daughters of encouragement, helping others see what God can do through His grace.
St. Barnabas, pray for us.
