Erie County and partners are hosting a free Safe Street Training for Towns and Villages on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The workshop will introduce municipal leaders, planners, engineers, and public work staff to the Safe Systems approach and practical strategies for improving safety across multimodal transportation networks. Because of differences in regulations, this training is for towns and villages only - we are hoping to provide a similar training for Cities in the near future.

This free workshop will examine how roadway design, traffic operations, and project coordination influence safety outcomes. It will provide practical tools that municipalities can use to reduce roadway conflicts, improve multimodal accessibility, and advance transportation projects that prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of the public. PDH, CM and LGT credits available to attendees.

Date: Tuesday May 12, 2026
Time: 12:30 – 1:00PM – Lunch (Pizza) and Refreshments provided, 1:00 – 4:30PM - Workshop
Location: In Person - Appletree Business Park, 2875 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 or Virtual Available

Please see attached flyer and agenda for more information and register for the training here: https://tinyurl.com/SafeStreetTraining

Highlights from the Buffalo Career Trek!

Last Thursday, 16 MUP and BAED students from the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning got an inside look at the planning profession touring firms and agencies across Western New York, including:
LaBella Associates
Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority
Erie County Department of Environment & Planning
C&S Companies

At each stop, students heard directly from professionals about the projects shaping our region, heard about different career paths in planning, and got a behind-the-scenes tour of each office.

The tour wrapped up with a networking happy hour at Big Ditch Brewing Company, generously sponsored by the University at Buffalo Office of Alumni Engagement, bringing students and professionals together to connect and share experiences.
