The tragic loss of 11-year-old Frontier student Nadiya Santiago has deeply impacted our Western New York community and serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of recognizing emotional distress in children and adolescents. According to 𝗗𝗿. 𝗪𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝘆𝗟𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, young people often communicate their struggles through changes in behavior, mood, sleep patterns, school performance, or social withdrawal. Early recognition and intervention can make a significant difference.

"Kids don't always have the words to express what they're feeling," Dr. Weinstein explained, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication and seeking professional support when warning signs emerge.
