Congratulations Juneteenth of Buffalo Festival on 50 years! We look forward to joining the community in celebrating at MLK Park all weekend long.

For too long, the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority has ignored tenants' concerns. We have shown up at meetings, engaged in good faith, and have been met with distractions, contradictions, and lies. BMHA leadership, particularly Gillian Brown and Modesto Candelario, have shown time and time again that they do not care about the needs of their tenants. Enough is enough.

The BMHA is now attempting to build gentrified "affordable housing" all over Buffalo, while tenants in their existing properties suffer. Apartment complexes like Perry and Langfield are literally rotting with dangerous mold, and tenants' work orders have gone unfilled for months or even years.

The struggle tenants face is the product of the systemic crises in the city — negligent landlords, government institutions which fail to serve the people and the logic of profit over people. These crises impact the vast majority in Buffalo, where renters make up 57% of households. These problems must be confronted with deeper organization amongst the people.

If you pay rent in the city of Buffalo, you are a tenant too. We need to stand together and amplify the voices of our neighbors. Come attend a town hall for the tenants of Buffalo and learn how you can help. No tenant fights alone!

Vendors from across the country are coming together on Saturday June 13 and Sunday June 14 to celebrate 50 years of Buffalo Juneteenth’s commitment to uplift African American heritage, resilience, and communities. Come say hi and take in all the festival has to offer!
