Super Kirbie, Kirbie Strong = Super Kirbie Strong. She is a very strong 5-year-old little girl. Why, you ask? Just last week, Kirbie started a journey many of us have had the blessing now to travel. A doctor visit led to an ER visit to a transfer from Bryan/College Station hospital to Texas Children’s Hospital to the final diagnosis of cancer.

Kirbie has been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. She began treatment only about 3 hours after getting the diagnosis. One chemotreatment before the doctors changed plans and now she is doing 33 rounds of radiation. The principal idea is to shrink the tumor, which, when found, measured 7cm by 6cm and was located in her left cheek. It is pressing on her optic nerve at the moment, and that eye is swollen shut and she cannot see out of it. The doctors believe if they can shrink the tumor to an operable size, they will be able to remove it.

Sandra and Alan are able to both be there in the hospital with her, thankfully. Cathy and Cheno have been able to go up to her room, also. Doctors and mom and dad are hoping she may get to come home and just travel back and forth for radiation, but a release date has not been discussed.

The biggest need right now is prayers. Prayers the growth will shrink specifically into her lower left cheek and not settle in her sinus cavity or elsewhere. She is in good spirits and we all remains very optimistic. She doesn’t like be stuck, but is being a very brave, STRONG, big girl and getting it done.

I will continue to keep you updated as things progress. Praying for a complete recovery, and ask that you please join me.
