Keep the promises you make to yourself! I said I was committed to cultivating a consistent creative practice of self portrait making this year and my word to myself means everything.
I’ve always been drawn to indigo as a color, an energy, a power. When I was in my 20s, an elder man stopped my mom in a Salvation Army we were at together to tell her that I was an indigo child and to be aware of the mission. It was woo woo and fab. I’ve been fascinated with indigo ever since.
I got this textile at a reduce, reuse center in Gowanus years ago, in hopes I’d use it down the line. I sewed together the two panels and wanted to bring that indigo energy through. With the state of disarray and chaos that we’re all experiencing, I just want to feel empowered and close to the things, people, ideas that make me whole.
Puerto Rico is so full of magic. A coqui paid me a visit after my outdoor everything shower, as if bathing al fresco wasn’t fab enough. I don’t play around about my bath products and they come with me everywhere I go. I’m able to keep my same body care routine no matter where I am thanks to my fave bodycare line . They don’t call it a ritual for nothing.
